I am now back from the West Coast, and I have completed all the requirements for my Master's. Yay! :) The defense went really well... even better than I was hoping for, in fact. My committee members all asked very reasonable questions -- all the questions I was expected them to ask, in fact. And my supervisor was even nice enough to let me plant a question on her, so that I could be sure to address everything I really wanted to. It was a really good experience. It made me feel smart again, which was wonderful after all the delays and difficulties getting it done. And I have been assured that although the questions seemed easy (and they did, relatively speaking), it was only because they were expected and reasonably framed. There were some pretty huge issues in there, I admit -- race, class, sexuality.
Anyway, it's over, it was a good experience, and I'm back to mundanity. Back to work tomorrow. That's a little less exciting, but it's been good to have a break.
The vacation part was quite wonderful. It was great to spend time with H again -- I've missed her a lot. I'll be quite happy when (if) she comes back to Ontario -- it'll be nice to see her more often than this. And I got to see many of my other West coast friends as well, which was really nice. It's more than a little sad that I won't get to see so many of them for a very long time, if ever again. Bah.
I got home yesterday evening, so exhausted that it was all I could do to order pizza and watch half of Fantasia. I had to go to bed when I couldn't even keep my eyes open. Not surprising, given that I'd been up at shortly after 4 that morning to catch my plane. Nobody should ever have to get up that early. It's obscene. ick.
Spenser was very happy to see me. He then proceeded to tell me off in no uncertain terms for daring to leave him alone. Never mind that he was well looked after, and that judging from the new thing of treats on my sideboard he was pretty effectively spoiled by his catsitter and the sitter's soft-hearted girlfriend. ;) I still had to be reprimanded. I think he's settled down a little now. I played fetch with him for a while, and he seems to have forgiven me. More or less.
Anyway, I'm going to go and have a shower now (mmm, cleanliness). Perhaps more later.
