I know I haven't updated this is aaaages. It's not even that I've been so terribly busy, I just haven't been very articulate. Sorry 'bout that.

No work for me today!

As you may or may not recall, we recently finished a rather large, crazy and stressful project at work. Apparently, the big-boss-lady was in a generous mood and said that since we'd all worked so hard, the team should take a day off. So this is mine. I'm really quite amazed, because I've never heard of this happening before, but I am certainly not complaining. Four-day weekend! Woo!

I'm considering going and getting my hair cut today. It desperately needs it, and I've been avoiding doing it because I don't have a hairdresser in town, and I'm really quite petrified of going to a new hairdresser. What if they screw it up? But I think I will try to work up the courage and bite the bullet. Really, it's getting scraggly enough now that they could hardly make it worse. Well, they could, but they'd really have to work at it.

House-hunting continues. I should try to call and see some places today. So far, I've seen several places that would be okay, but nothing absolutely perfect yet. One was in the perfect location, with a big, beautiful south-facing balcony and a lovely view, but the apartment itself was just a little too small... another, that I saw yesterday (and currently the front-runner) was a good size, but the balcony was small and north-facing (northwest, though, so it did get some good late-afternoon sun), and the location was not quite as ideal (Sandy Hill, for those who know Ottawa -- North of Rideau). But it was quite nice, and it is currently the front-running apartment. I think I will continue to look for something that jumps out and says "pick me!" until about the end of the month. If I haven't found the "perfect" apartment by the beginning of June, I will lower my standards to "good enough".

Oh, and it is encouraging that none of the places I've seen have had any problem with me having a cat. So that is less of an issue than I had expected. (Technically, you can't refuse an apartment to someone because they have a pet, especially a cat -- dogs can get you evicted because of noise and disturbing the neighbours, but otherwise they're not allowed to evict on the basis of pets. However, they are allowed to pick their tenants, and I was concerned that the cat would be an issue. Of course, I could just not mention him, but I don't want to live in a place where he isn't welcome)

And J is now in town! He's busy until Sunday sometime, at which point he and I are going to hang out. *bounce* I need to come up with something fun to do -- show him the advantages of the "big" city (he's a Victoria native, and this is apparently his first time here).

Whew. Long post. I think that's everything I have to say for now... aren't you relieved? ;)

  • Some thoughts on Deep Breath

So, we went to see Deep Breath at the theatre last night -- a little silly, to pay money to watch a show that we could have seen online two days…

  • Canadian Winter

I'm something of a conflicted Canadian, and nothing brings it out more than the depths of winter. I grumble a lot about how much I hate winter,…
