There was some job-related stuff early in the day that I'm not going to go into in a public post. Suffice to say, I'm looking at a fight, and not looking forward to it one little bit.
So I was already brooding and grumpy, and I just wanted to go to the gym and burn off some of that bad-mood energy.
At the gym, I learn that my membership has been canceled. Apparently, I canceled it in January. This comes as a surprise to me, especially since I've been cheerfully using my membership right up until Sunday. The nice ladies at the gym try to figure out what's going on, and they call head office for me so that I can talk to people there and try to get to the bottom of things. Head office is... less than helpful. They just keep saying "well, it was canceled in January. They can reinstate your membership there, you'll just have to pay the $xx in back dues that you owe." They have no explanation for how my membership was canceled without my consent, just some lame theory that someone else with a similar name must have canceled their membership and there was a mix-up (riiiiight...). You'd think that would be cause for concern, since it means someone else is presumably still getting deductions after having signed a cancellation form, but the phone-drone seemed utterly unperturbed. She displayed no desire to help, did not apologize for the cancellation, and was basically completely unhelpful and unfriendly. I was clearly an impediment to her day, and she just wanted to get rid of me. Which she did, mostly by maintaining sullen near-silence.
I told the nice ladies that I had to go back and check my bank statements before I paid any back dues, and that I'd be back in later in the week to sort things out. They suggested I call ahead and make sure one of them was there, so that I'd be dealing with someone who knew the whole backstory.
I do have to say that the ladies at the gym itself were very nice and did everything they could to help. They let me have my workout while they tried to find out what was going on, and they had all the forms ready to go to reinstate the membership. I have no complaint with the people working at the actual gym, just with head office. And with whoever spontaneously canceled my membership -- I still want an explanation for that.
It'll all be resolved this week -- I just have to go back in and finish the reinstatement paperwork, and it shouldn't be a problem. I'd really prefer if head office would waive the missed payment (of which there was ONE), since it was their screw-up that caused this in the first place, but it's probably not worth fighting over. But the whole thing was just a major kick in the teeth, on a day when I was less prepared than usual to cope with it.
Goodlife Fitness, you can expect to receive a scathing letter from me in the very near future. I'm seriously considering canceling my membership for real, and you can thank the niceness and helpfulness of the people actually in the gym for the fact that I didn't storm out on the spot.
