death in venice

So, here I am back in Ottawa! I've actually been back for a couple of days, but the jet-lag has been particularly bad, and has prevented me from being able to articulate much beyond "bleugh". I'm gradually returning to my old, semi-articulate self, though. So that's good.

The heat here is brutal. Fortunately, the house is pretty cool and comfortable, but I went out for a run this morning (the training schedule officially re-starts in a couple of days, but I'm trying to get myself back in workout mode rather than walking around touristing mode), and I nearly collapsed at the 20-minute mark. Well, okay, that's a little melodramatic -- but I wasn't feeling too good, let's just say that. Having since chugged my bottle of water and some gatorade, I'm feeling much better. Also, a cold shower has reset my internal temperature, but yikes -- exercising is tough when it's like this.

My vacation was wonderful, although much too short. I can basically sum it up by saying that I spent an awful lot of time staring at things -- which makes for a good vacation in my book. :) I have lots of pictures, and one of my goals for today is to download them all off my camera, so maybe I'll post a couple here later. We shall see.

I'm trying to decide what else to do today. With the weather like this, I kind of want to just flop with a book, or with my knitting, or a movie or something. But I really ought to get something accomplished. The garden/yard is a disaster, but the idea of working outside right now is... not appealing. I could go to Mooney's Bay and go swimming. That would count as training, even. But it's going to be an absolute zoo, which makes it rather less appealing. Hmmm...
