Pet peeve du jour

People who attend concerts and then talk all the way through the show.

This is actually a phenomenon I simply do not understand. fairplaythings and I went to see Matthew Good last night, and it was absolutely appalling the number of people who, having spent $30 to go out on a Monday night, just talked and talked and talked the whole time. There were two women in particular, who were standing behind us during the earlier acts (Limblifter and Auf der Maur), who simply were not silent for more than 10 seconds at a time. We were subjected to an incessent stream of completely pointless babble, when we were trying to listen to the music that we'd, you know, paid to listen to. Fortunately, they wandered off to find a better spot for the "main event", so we were spared... but the rest of the audience was nearly as bad. Admittedly, it wasn't a great show -- uneven and lacking in energy -- but I can't help but feel that the fact the audience didn't seem to be listening was a contributing factor.

Were there simply too many people there who had won tickets or otherwise weren't all that interested in the show? I don't know. But it makes me feel like doing my old lady grumble: people these days are lacking in common respect. That kind of behaviour is terribly rude, both to the performer who's up there for your entertainment, and to the other members of the audience, who want to be able to hear and enjoy the show. Young people these days...

Grump grump grump.
